FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Booking, tours, airport pickup, weddings, pricing, vehicles: answers to the questions our team gets most often.
Booking
How do I book a Smart Limo Rental ride?
Reserve online through our Book Now page, which runs on our secure Limo Anywhere reservation system, or call (202) 609-9811 any time; a person answers 24/7. Give us your date, pickup address, group size and hours, and we send one flat quote. Tours and weddings are best booked 1 to 2 weeks ahead, cherry blossom season 4 or more.
How far in advance should I book?
For an airport pickup inside an hourly booking or a standard private tour, 24 to 48 hours is usually fine and same-day is often possible. Tours, weddings and special events in peak season fill 1 to 4 weeks out; cherry blossom season in late March and April, prom weekends and graduation fill earliest, so book 4 to 6 weeks ahead then.
Do you pick up from hotels, Airbnbs and private homes?
Yes. Hotels, Airbnb and VRBO stays, private homes, offices, embassies, universities, hospitals, restaurants and event venues across Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland are all pickup points. Give us the address and dispatch confirms the exact spot the day before.
What happens after I book?
You get a confirmation right away, and dispatch calls the day before your trip to reconfirm the pickup point and, for tours, the stops that matter most to you. The chauffeur texts when the car is two minutes out. The route arrives planned and still flexes on the day.
Do you require a deposit?
You can pay the full amount when you book, or secure the date with a $200 deposit and have the balance charged the day before service. Either way the booking is fully refundable up to 72 hours before the service.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel 72 hours or more before your service and the full amount is refunded, whether you paid a deposit or the whole booking. Inside 72 hours, call dispatch at (202) 609-9811 and we will work with you on the date.
Can I make changes to my reservation?
Yes. Call up to 24 hours before pickup and we adjust the pickup time, drop-off, vehicle or itinerary at no charge. Changes inside 24 hours are accommodated whenever possible and may carry a fee.
Is pickup included, and how far outside DC do you go?
Pickup and drop-off are included on every booking within about 20 miles of downtown DC (ZIP 20005), roughly a 30-minute drive, which covers DC, Arlington, Alexandria, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Tysons and National Harbor. The drive counts inside your booked hours: a 4-hour tour with 30 minutes each way leaves about 3 hours in the city, so guests further out often book 5. Beyond that circle, call dispatch at (202) 609-9811 and we quote one flat rate that includes the travel.
Tours
How long is a typical DC tour?
The most popular tours are 4 hours, which covers all 11 walk-up monuments on the National Mall and Tidal Basin. The full-day tour is 8 hours and adds Arlington, the Iwo Jima and Air Force memorials and Georgetown; Mount Vernon is 5 hours, Gettysburg 10, and wine country carries a 6-hour minimum. Every tour bills a 4-hour minimum.
Can we book a DC tour shorter than 4 hours?
Private DC tours run on a 4-hour minimum in every vehicle, because four hours is what the monuments circuit needs once you add walking time at each memorial. For a corporate program, an event or a fixed schedule that needs a shorter block, call dispatch at (202) 609-9811 with your date and we will see what can be arranged. Hourly chauffeur bookings without a tour route start at 3 hours in the Executive Sedan and SUV.
Can I customize the tour itinerary?
Yes. Every tour is private, so add or drop a stop, linger longer, change the order or pause for lunch just by asking your chauffeur. You never have to plan anything: tell us your priorities at booking and we build the day, then the route bends to you on the spot.
Are tours private or shared with other groups?
All Smart Limo Rental tours are 100 percent private. The vehicle and chauffeur are exclusively yours for the booked hours; we do not run group tours or shared rides.
Does the chauffeur share information about the landmarks?
Yes. Our chauffeurs are professional career drivers who know DC well, and they point out the landmarks and share the stories as you drive between stops, then stay with the vehicle while you explore each memorial at your own pace.
What is the best tour for a first-time DC visitor?
The 4-hour DC Monuments Tour or Welcome to DC half-day tour covers the full circuit: 11 walk-up stops from the Capitol and the White House to the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington Monument, the Tidal Basin memorials and the war memorials, plus about 19 narrated drive-bys. With a whole day, the Welcome to DC full-day adds Arlington and Georgetown.
Can we visit the monuments at night?
Yes. The open-air memorials are open around the clock and floodlit, and our DC night tour runs the same 11-stop circuit after sunset, when crowds are lightest and the Jefferson reflects in the Tidal Basin. We set the start time to sunset for your date.
Airport pickup
Which DC-area airports do you serve?
All three: Reagan National (DCA), Dulles International (IAD) and Baltimore/Washington International (BWI), plus private aviation airports around DC on request. Airport pickup is sold as part of a private tour or an hourly chauffeur booking.
Can I book just an airport transfer?
Airport pickup runs inside a tour or an hourly booking, so one reservation covers the pickup plus the hotel, a meeting or a first look at the monuments. Hourly bookings carry a 3-hour minimum on the Executive Sedan ($380) and SUV ($420); tours a 4-hour minimum.
What if my flight is delayed?
We track every flight by its flight number and adjust the pickup to the actual arrival, early or late. No calls, no extra charge. Just give us the flight number when you book.
Will the chauffeur meet me inside the terminal?
Standard pickup is curbside at arrivals, with the chauffeur ready when you walk out. If you would like to be met inside the terminal, ask when you book and we arrange it; that is the usual choice for international arrivals at Dulles.
How early should I be picked up for my outgoing flight?
About 90 minutes before boarding at DCA with PreCheck and 2 hours without; 2.5 hours for a domestic Dulles departure and 3 for international; 2 hours for BWI from downtown. We add time in weekday rush hour and recommend a pickup time for your flight when you book.
Weddings & events
What wedding services do you offer?
Bride and groom transport, bridal-party and parents' vehicles, guest shuttles from the hotel block, photo stops at the monuments between ceremony and reception, and the send-off. We build multi-vehicle plans with one point of contact, and you are welcome to decorate the car.
Do you do prom and graduation transport?
Yes. The stretch limousine, the white Hummer and the Mercedes Sprinter run prom, homecoming, graduation and quinceañera nights. Under-21 rides are alcohol-free, parents sign the no-alcohol policy, and pickups and drop-offs are at residences.
Can you handle multi-vehicle corporate events?
Yes. We coordinate fleets of several vehicles for conferences, offsites, embassy events and roadshows, dispatched together on one invoice with a single point of contact. Corporate accounts get net-30 invoicing and a consistent chauffeur pool.
Pricing & policies
How is pricing calculated?
By the vehicle and the hours. The Executive Sedan is $110 an hour and the SUV $120 on a 3-hour service minimum ($380 and $420); the stretch is $135, the Sprinter $140, the white Hummer $190 and the mini bus $180 on a 4-hour minimum. Tours bill 4 hours in every vehicle, from $440. Every quote is one flat figure.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All major credit cards, Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover, through our secure Limo Anywhere booking system. Corporate accounts can be invoiced net-30.
Do you charge surge pricing?
No. The rate quoted at booking is the rate you pay, even in cherry blossom season, on prom weekends or during holiday rushes. That is one of the main reasons corporate and wedding clients book us instead of a rideshare.
Is gratuity included?
Gratuity is optional and not included: tip your chauffeur directly, or call dispatch and we will add it to your card. The quote covers the vehicle, the chauffeur and the hours you book.
Can we bring food and drinks on board?
Yes. Food is welcome, and adults 21 and over may bring drinks within DC, Maryland and Virginia law. Prom and under-21 groups ride alcohol-free. We only ask that you take your trash along and leave the vehicle as you found it.
Vehicles & drivers
What vehicles are in your fleet?
Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class preferred, 1 to 3), Executive SUV (Cadillac Escalade or Chevrolet Suburban class, up to 6), black Lincoln stretch limousine (up to 10), Mercedes Sprinter van (up to 13), white Hummer limousine (18), executive mini bus (22 to 32) and luxury coach (33 to 55). See the Fleet page for photos and rates.
Who are your chauffeurs?
Professional career drivers, not gig contractors. Most have driven for us for 5 or more years, part of a company with 20-plus years on DC-metro roads, and they complete defensive-driving and customer-service training. They know the city: the shortcuts, the parking and the timing.
Are vehicles non-smoking?
All Smart Limo Rental vehicles are non-smoking and non-vaping. A cleaning fee applies if the policy is violated.
Do you offer car seats for children?
Car seats and boosters are available on request, subject to availability on your date, since the seats are shared across bookings. Tell us your children's ages when you book and dispatch confirms what can be reserved. You are always welcome to bring your own.
Are your vehicles wheelchair accessible?
Our fleet is not wheelchair-accessible. Call us and dispatch will check what can be arranged for your date.
Does the chauffeur speak Spanish?
Your chauffeur narrates the tour in English, pointing out the landmarks and their stories between every stop, and dispatch is happy to help with any question when you book.
