The ceremonies are often at nearby churches: Christ Church on Cameron Street (George Washington’s church), St. Mary’s, or one of the synagogues in the area.
The photo-stop circuit in Old Town is worth planning for. The Waterfront Park at the foot of King Street, Founders Park just north of it, and the stretch of Strand Street behind the Torpedo Factory are the standard spots. A chauffeur who knows the parking situation on Strand Street saves 20 minutes of wedding-day frustration. We know it.
King Street is the spine of Old Town dining: Restaurant Eve, Vola’s Dockside Grill, Brabo, and a dozen others within four blocks. Weekend evening dinner-and-return pickups from Old Town are common, particularly for couples staying at DC hotels who have come down for the evening.
Mount Vernon access
Mount Vernon, George Washington’s estate, is 8 miles south of Old Town on the GW Parkway. The parkway itself is one of the few genuinely scenic drives left in the metro area. A Mount Vernon visit combined with an Old Town lunch or dinner is a natural half-day itinerary, and our Mount Vernon tour package is built around exactly that combination. Add a stop at the Woodlawn estate or the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in the city itself, and it fills a full day comfortably.
The Carlyle district and Eisenhower Avenue
South of Old Town, the Carlyle neighborhood around North Fairfax Street and the Eisenhower Avenue Metro station has a cluster of federal agencies and defense contractors. The Transportation Security Administration’s headquarters is here, as is the Patent and Trademark Office complex further west in Landmark/Van Dorn. Corporate airport runs from this area to DCA are the dominant booking type: 15 minutes to the terminal, flat rate.
Airport connections from Alexandria
DCA is 15 minutes from Old Town hotels via the GW Parkway north. That route is particularly clean in the early morning when the parkway is empty — the 4:30 a.m. departure pickup from King Street is one of the smoother runs in the service area. IAD is 30 to 35 minutes via I-395 west and the Dulles Toll Road. BWI is 35 to 40 minutes via I-95 north.
The GW Parkway can back up southbound on weekday afternoons, which affects the reverse trip (DC to Alexandria). We route around it via Telegraph Road or Route 1 when needed.
