When your flight lands, your driver is already at the curb. That’s the standard. Smart Limo Rental has been running DC-area airport pickups for over two decades, and we’ve worked out how to make the airport part of the trip disappear.
One thing to know up front: we do not sell one-way transfer-only trips. Airport pickup at DCA, IAD, or BWI comes as part of a private tour or hourly chauffeur booking, which starts at 3 hours ($380 in the Town Car, $420 in the SUV). A single airport run doesn’t cover the cost of positioning a chauffeur and vehicle, so we stopped selling it. What we do instead works better anyway: land, meet your chauffeur at baggage claim, and the same vehicle carries you through your first 3 hours in DC, whether that’s a monuments tour, a run of meetings, or hotel check-in plus a first look at the city.
Three airports, one team
Washington DC sits equidistant from three airports, and none of them is obviously “the right choice” for every traveler. The answer depends on where you’re going, where your flight originates, and what you value. We serve all three with full 24/7 coverage:
- Reagan National (DCA): 3 miles from downtown DC, no tolls, fast connection to Foggy Bottom and Capitol Hill
- Washington Dulles (IAD): international arrivals hub, 26 miles west, custom meet-and-greet at customs exit
- Baltimore-Washington (BWI): 35 miles northeast, usually cheaper fares, serves Bethesda and Silver Spring well
Each airport has its own page with terminal-specific pickup procedures, drive-time estimates by neighborhood, and departure lead-time guidance.
How DC airport limo pickup works
Booking is straightforward. Give us your flight number, pickup date and time, number of passengers, and what you want the booking to cover: a tour route, a block of hourly chauffeur time, or both. Our dispatch board pulls live FAA status for your flight. If your plane lands 30 minutes early, the chauffeur is already repositioning. If you sit on the tarmac for an hour, you don’t pay for that hour.
For arrivals, the process differs slightly by airport:
DCA arrivals: The chauffeur meets you at the baggage claim exit or curbside on the arrivals level, depending on what you request at booking. Most domestic travelers prefer curbside. First-time DC visitors and international arrivals get a name sign at baggage claim.
IAD arrivals: For international flights, the chauffeur holds a name sign at the customs exit on the lower level (Door 4 area). For domestic IAD arrivals, curbside is the default. IAD gives us 60 minutes of free wait time for international flights and 30 for domestic.
BWI arrivals: Domestic curbside pickup is on the upper level. International arrivals at Concourse E get a chauffeur with a name sign at baggage claim level. The BW Parkway is the standard route to DC; when there’s a backup at the merge near Greenbelt, we route through alternate corridors.
Three ways the airport leg fits your booking
Arrival day tour. Land at IAD or DCA in the morning, and your monuments tour starts from the terminal. The chauffeur stows the luggage, you see the National Mall before hotel check-in, and the 3-hour minimum covers both. This is the most common pattern for first-time DC visitors.
Departure day tour. Your DCA drop-off ends a tour day. Check out of the hotel, spend 2 to 3 hours at the memorials or museums you missed, and the same vehicle delivers you to the terminal with your bags already loaded.
Corporate hourly. Hourly chauffeur bookings include the airport leg as a matter of course. The chauffeur collects your team at the gate-side curb, runs the meeting schedule, and returns everyone for the evening flight. One booking, one vehicle, one quoted price.
What every airport pickup includes
Every booking, regardless of airport, includes the same core package: flight tracking from wheels-down to pickup, luggage assistance from baggage claim to the vehicle, and complimentary bottled water. You get one quoted price for the full booking before you confirm. There’s no surge pricing and no meter running while you collect your bags.
Wait time: 30 minutes for domestic arrivals at no charge, 60 minutes for international arrivals at no charge. If you need more time, we hold the vehicle at an additional hourly rate.
Vehicle options for airport pickups
Most airport runs use our executive sedan (Mercedes-Benz or Lincoln Town Car) or executive SUV (Cadillac Escalade or Chevrolet Suburban). Both seat up to 3 passengers with full luggage.
Traveling with more people or more bags? The Mercedes Sprinter van handles groups of up to 13 with full luggage and is popular for corporate team arrivals and family vacation trips. For a corporate group of 22 to 32, the executive mini-bus makes the run comfortably.
If you’re celebrating an arrival or departure and want the full stretch-limo experience, we do those too. The black Lincoln stretch seats up to 10 and the white Hummer limousine fits 18 passengers. Not the usual airport vehicle, but it’s been requested for team send-offs and surprise arrivals.
Common questions about DC airport transfers
Can I book just a one-way airport transfer? No. We do not sell transfer-only trips. Airport pickup is included in any private tour or hourly chauffeur booking, which starts at 3 hours ($380 in the Town Car, $420 in the SUV). If all you need is a ride to the hotel, a rideshare will cost less; if you want your first hours in DC handled by one chauffeur and one vehicle, that’s what we sell.
Do you track my flight if it’s delayed? Yes. Once you provide your flight number at booking, our dispatch system monitors live FAA status. If your arrival time changes by more than 10 minutes, the driver’s schedule adjusts automatically. You don’t need to call us.
Is the limo service flat-rate or metered? Neither a meter nor surge pricing. You get one quoted price for the full tour or hourly booking before you confirm.
Do you provide child seats for airport pickups? Yes, on request. Specify the child’s age and weight when booking and we’ll have the appropriate seat installed. No additional charge.
Do you charge for waiting if my flight is late? No, within the included wait time. Domestic arrivals get 30 free minutes from actual wheels-down. International arrivals get 60. Beyond that, the vehicle waits at an additional hourly rate and we call you first.
Which DC airport is closest to my hotel? It depends on where you’re staying. For hotels in Northwest DC, Georgetown, or Capitol Hill, DCA is almost always the best choice (20 minutes, no tolls). For Bethesda or Silver Spring, BWI is the better fit. For Tysons Corner or Reston, IAD wins by a clear margin.
Pricing
Airport pickup is included in the price of your tour or hourly booking. The Town Car starts at $380 for 3 hours and $440 for 4 hours, then $110 per hour; the Executive SUV runs $420, $480, and $120. The Mercedes Sprinter and mini-bus carry a 4-hour minimum at group rates. Call (202) 609-9811 or use our Book Now page for a quote. The phone is answered 24/7 by a real dispatcher.
